When you bring us your transportation project – we have the expertise to put together a transport plan that will meet your project’s specific needs. We match the right heavy hauling equipment with your needs, obtain necessary permits and escorts, and appoint the most experienced drivers to safely and successfully handle your heavy haul. We understand what a heavy haul shipment is, what weight limitations apply and what other requirements are necessary to ensure a smooth and successful transportation.
What Is Heavy Haul Trucking?
Heavy haul trucking is the hauling of overweight, oversize or specialized shipments. Generally, shipping heavy equipment will require the use of step-decks, RGN’s or other specialized trailers that can haul over dimensional or overweight loads. Although federal government requires each state to set their own regulations for hauling heavy shipments, heavy haul is generally classified as cargo that exceeds:
- Width of 8 feet
- Height of 10 feet
- Length of 27 to 100 feet
- Gross weight of 30,000 + pounds
Examples of Heavy Haul Shipments
Shipments that might qualify as heavy haul can range from excavators, bulldozers, tractors, and other heavy industrial objects. For years Nationwide United has specialized in transportation of heavy haul shipments including but no limited to:
- Construction and Agricultural Equipment
- Mining Equipment
- Cranes
- Transformers
- Oil and Gas Production Modules
- Wind Turbines
- Pressure and Ethanol Vessels
- Storage Tanks
Specialized Hauling Equipment
There are various types of transport trailers. Heavy hauling is a more intricate way of transporting over-dimension and/or overweight loads and requires specialized trailers to accommodate a load’s specific needs. We have the experience and knowledge to match your shipment with the correct type of trailer which include:
- Flatbed
- Stepdeck or (dropdeck)
- Double Drop
- Removable Gooseneck (RGN),
- Stretch or Extendable
- Multiple Axles (multi-axle)
Permit and Escort Requirements
We are safety driven and our professionally trained drivers share the same commitment to safety. We work with permit offices across the country to obtain the necessary permissions and pilot/escort vehicles, if needed, to transport your heavy haul in a legal and safe manner. Most permits issued outline the amount of time (generally three to five days), hours (generally during sunlight) and optimized route a heavy haul shipment can travel.
